Place Your Bid on Our Custom Collings D41

Like all 12 custom guitars in Acoustic Guitar magazine’s 10th Anniversary Collection, for many years we displayed our Collings D41 on an office wall. I called it ‘Il Cannone’ – The Cannon – the nickname Nicolò Paganini bestowed on the 1743 Guarneri del Gesú violin he played for most of his life. Our Collings was The Cannon not just because of its powerful sound, but because it would begin to rumble when I walked past it. That’s how moving air can sympathize with a set of strings on a well-made guitar.

I’ll be a bit sad to see it go to the highest bidder in our 30th Anniversary Auction, which is happening right now and closes on May 10 at 11:59 PM. But my sadness will be tempered by the knowledge that we’ll be donating 50% of the net proceeds to the Bill Collings Memorial Fund in support of guitar education in public schools and public programs.
Eric Schoenberg estimates its current market value at $10,000. We wouldn’t consider parting with it for much less than that – even for a great cause – so now’s the time to place your bid.
