It is a treat to learn a bit more about Joni. She is such an incredible and unique talent as a musician, as a singer, as a lyricist, and performer. I am nearly 70 and will continue to appreciate more about her music as I return to older albums.

Like any true artistic geniuses regardless of the type of art, I’ve always felt that understanding what she was doing at any time in her amazing career required a certain amount of withholding quick judgement. Such beauty and depth… Withholding judgement always led to deeper understanding. I will never forget the first time I saw and heard her, on the “Songwriters” stage at the Newport Folk Festival in 1969. Joni wowed EVERYONE including the others on the small stage that included James Taylor and Tom Rush, trading stories and taking turns playing a song of two. The respect between them was palpable. Plus, I was a 17-y.o. guy who was blown away by her beauty and grace; I think I fell in love with Joni right then and there! Thank you, thank you, thank you Joni for allowing us to catch at least a glimpse of who you are.
