Acoustic Guitar Sessions Presents Obsidian Son

Napa Valley singer-songwriter Sean Patrick Garvey had left the verdant vineyards of his youth to focus on his music. But returning to California Wine Country a couple of years ago to work on his family’s property afforded him the opportunity to dig into his songcraft even deeper.

The result is Obsidian Son, the namesake of Garvey’s performing group and the title of his latest album.

Obsidian Son is a collection of stories inspired by years living in a rural farming community. It represents both sides of the street, the neon hustle of a pay-day night and a summer wind through Spanish moss.

The record was recorded at Wow and Flutter in Nashville with producer Joe McMahon (Mike Farris, the McCrary Sisters), Adam Bednarik and Jon Radford (both with Justin Townes Earle) and Ryan Norris (Lambchop).

After a week in the studio Garvey had to return to Napa to work the harvest.

Joined by Josh Yenne on second guitar (who has a 1937 Gibson L-0 in hand), Garvey visited the Acoustic Guitar Sessions studio to perform two of his blue-collar ballads: “Small Town Graffitti” and “Genevieve.”
