One of the foremost proponents of DADGAD tuning, Dáithí Sproule remains a major influence on contemporary Irish music. In the early 1970s, he was part of the band Skara Brae, who were instrumental in keeping traditional Gaelic music alive in popular culture, and for the last two decades, he’s filled the guitarist chair in Altan. Sproule delivered three enchanting tunes during his visit to the AG studios and discussed a range of topics, including the Dublin folk scene of the late ’60s and early ’70s and his adaptation of DADGAD tuning to traditional Irish jigs and reels.
