Acoustic Guitar Sessions Presents: Laurence Juber

Fingerstyle guitar innovator, composer, and musicologist Laurence Juber stopped by the Acoustic Guitar studios in Richmond, California, late last year to perform selections from his latest project, Touchstones—The Evolution of Fingerstyle Guitar. The two-time Grammy winner may be familiar to many ears as the guitarist in Paul McCartney and Wings from 1978 to the band’s dissolution in 1981. Since then, Juber has established a lasting career as a solo guitarist and studio musician who has helped to push the acoustic guitar forward.

Touchstones is an album and book collection showcasing performances and music of historical milestones in the evolution of what would become known in the 20th century as fingerstyle guitar. It includes the first published Renaissance lute, vihuela, and guitar pieces, and then proceeds with representative examples from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic musical eras before transitioning into the American parlor guitar repertoire with the influential “Spanish Fandango.”

For this session, Juber used his Martin OMC LJ Laurence Juber signature guitar to play two pieces: “PCH” and “Catch” (04:18).
