Would also welcome an analysis of nylon strings and when to change them. Also, would welcome discussion on the various metals used in todays’ string making such as copper. Santa Cruz’s strings talks about “tension” vs gauge. Thank you

I use elixir strings and really find they hold up a lot longer than conventional non coated strings. They don’t corrode. I sometimes play finger style and use my nails. the wound lower strings fray over time because of this and then I put on a new set.

Also is there anything you can treat new strings with (wd-40 or something ) that would keep the windings on the strings from accumulating build-up?

I wipe with dry cloth from music store for guitars but I may be speeding up the process instead of keeping me strings clean.

thx.
