I played along to the original at half speed with the youtube wheel, and the tune is being played with a “cut time” -basically the first note of each eighth not pair lasts a little longer than the second note. It might not quite be a full dotted eighth note. This tune is basically a reel, and the Scottish or Irish play many of these using cut time. It gives it a much different feel. Once I went to a workshop with Gerry O’Bierne and I played Flowers of Edinburgh for him. He scoffed a little bit and said, “That sounds very ‘Merican” . Using a little bit of cut time helped out.
